POGGIN
TAILS!

They found him curled up and asleep
on his favourite warm stone. At first, no-one liked to wake him up, because
everyone knows that there is nothing worse than a polecat which has been rudely
awakened. In the end they volunteered the Armadillo to go and wake Poggin,
because at least he had a tough skin. Poggin was in the middle of a lovely
dream; he was dreaming of eating buttered crumpets, and at that moment he
rolled over on to his back to allow room for some more. “Poggin,” the Armadillo
whispered. “Can you hear me?”
“Yes,” murmured Poggin, still half
asleep. “Pass the crumpets.”
“Poggin,” the Armadillo whispered
again. “You are the fiercest and bravest of all animals. Will you stand up to
the Urgul and stop him bullying us?”
“Yes,” murmured Poggin, only just
beginning to wake up. “More butter, please.”
